[Finished] Missing Pieces (BTS) ·
  • Jungkook
  • Everyone has gathered and is waiting for the doctors to let us know what is going on with Yoona. Yoona’s mother looks like she is about to collapse any moment – the poor woman first got a fright with Baekhyun and now Yoona who’s been in a horrible accident.
  • Hoseok hasn’t said a word. I can’t even begin to imagine what is going through his mind right now. It was already bad enough they weren’t together for the time being but to think that she might not survive this… it must be heartbreaking for him. I look over at Baekhyun who looks numb. I've never seen him look like this - not even when he was beaten up and could barely lift himself. It's like his light has gone completely off.
  • Jimin and Minji are holding hands tightly as if they are afraid to let go. Yun and Yoongi are next to each other, Yun has her hand on Yoongi’s knee, trying to silently comfort him. Taehyung is sitting in the corner, away from every one but still close. Namjoon and Jin are sitting next to each, not saying anything but looking at everyone.
  • Finally, the doors open and the doctor walks out with the nurses following behind him. They look exhausted which isn’t a surprise considering they’ve been in there for hours. Yoona’s mother and Hoseok both stand up and approach him but we can still hear everything. ‘The surgery went well. She’s out of danger for now but…’ He says, taking a pause.
  • ‘What doctor? Is my daughter going to be okay?’ Yoona’s mother asks as she looks at him with teary eyes.
  • ‘We cannot be sure when she will wake up. Usually, a coma can last several days or weeks. The problem is if it goes on for a longer period because it may transition to a persistent vegatitive state.' He says. I stare at him, unable to move, unable to think, unable to breathe. ' She hit her head pretty bad which might mean that when she wakes up there can be issues such as memory loss.’ The doctor begins.
  • ‘What? What kind of memory loss?’ Hoseok asks and the doctor gulps as he looks between the two.
  • ‘It might be temporary. It depends on the extent of the trauma to the brain but we’ll have to see when she wakes up. We do have another concern regarding something else.’ The doctor says, trying to ease it in and I realize it’s something worse.
  • ‘There’s more?’ Yoona’s mother asks, clutching at her chest. I’m scared that at this rate, she’s going to have a heart attack. ‘Tell me doctor.’ She says.
  • ‘There was a lot of nerve damage to her back. She might suffer from lower paralysis.’ He says. Yoona’s mother lets out a painful cry before she begins to fall. Hoseok is quick to hold her and take her to a chair but I can see the news has shocked him as well.
  • ‘Are you saying she might not be able to walk?’ Minji asks standing up. The doctor nods. ‘But it could be temporary right? Or fixed with some surgery, right?’ She asks.
  • ‘It’s possible but it’s too early to tell.’ He replies. I can’t believe this is happening. I can’t believe that noona might not be able to walk again, moreover dance. I don’t know how she would be able to cope with something like that.
  • We’re not allowed to all go in at one go so we let her mother and brother go in first. I watch as Hoseok walks away from the room and I follow him. He goes to the garden for some fresh air as he sits on a bench and I sit down next to him. ‘I don’t feel like talking Jungkook.’ He says slowly.
  • ‘I know hyung. I won’t talk but let me stay with you.’ I say and he nods. We stay for a few minutes before I hear him sniff and I realize he is crying again. ‘Hyung…’ I say.
  • ‘I failed to protect her.’ He says bitterly. I can hear the self-blame in his voice and I sigh.
  • ‘Hyung it was a car accident. How could you have stopped that? You don’t even know what happened or what caused the accident.’ I say.
  • ‘Was it just an accident though?’ He asks and I sigh, not having an answer for him. ‘What if she doesn’t wake up?’ He asks again. He sounds so broken right now. I can’t blame him – the girl he loves is in a coma with no certainty that she’ll wake up. No, she has to wake up – I say to myself as I try to shake the doubts away.
  • ‘No, don’t say that. We have to believe she will wake up. The doctor said they don’t know when not that she won’t.’ I say, even though I have my own doubts. ‘How about we go see her hyung?’ I ask.
  • ‘I’m not sure if I have it in me to see her like this.’ He admits but stands up anyways.
  • Hoseok
  • It’s my turn to walk in to see her. The others have decided to let me go in on my own. I walk into the room and I can’t help but let out a choked cry. I approach the bed and stare at her. This is not the Yoona I know. The Yoona I know is strong, beautiful, energetic and full of life.
  • This Yoona – this Yoona is lying in bed, motionless and the only sign of life is the monitor beeping steadily. It’s the only thing that assures me that she is still alive. She has a neck brace keeping her head up. Her face is bruised and her head bandaged. I look at the chair close to the bed and I sit down there.
  • I reach for her hand with my own trembling one. I take it in mine and I realize she’s wearing the bracelet I had given her years ago. How did I not notice that she still wore this? It’s a simple black, string bracelet with some decorative ornaments. It shows how weary it is from all the times she has worn it.
  • I smile a bit, trying to mask my pain as I hold her hand. I start to stroke it with my other hand. It feels soft but cold. ‘Ahh jagi.’ I begin and I instantly feel the familiar burn in my eyes. ‘Jagi… I never thought we’d be here. I never thought I’d see you like this.’ I say as I stroke her slender fingers. ‘I knew you were in trouble but I didn’t do enough. I didn’t know what to do but I should have never let you walk away. I should have fought harder for you. I’m sorry.’ I say.
  • I sigh, my lips trembling as I pull myself closer to her. ‘Jagi… remember when you told me you were ready to leave to make it easier for me? Remember what I told you? I said – stay because if you leave it would break me.’ I say as I feel the teardrops falling on her hands.
  • ‘You promised you’d stay so you better wake up. You better not go anywhere, got it?’ I ask. I bite my lower lip, trying to keep my voice from shaking. My throat feels like it’s enclosing on me.
  • ‘Do you remember our first kiss? I had come with you to go grocery shopping. I ended up eating dinner with you and your family and then it started raining. We started dancing in the rain to Tae’s song. You loved that song and said that it will always remind you of us. We were soaking wet and we kissed. It was so perfect.’ I say as I sniff once more. I use my arm to wipe away the tears and to wipe my nose.
  • ‘Do you remember when we went out to the mall and we were almost caught by fans and we hid for an hour in the ladies’ bathroom? We couldn’t stop laughing.’ I say as I smile a bit at the memory.
  • ‘How about New Year’s Eve? Do you remember that? We were making out… we were in the process of undressing each other when we heard the door opening. We thought thieves had broken in. I told you to stay but you refused and followed me while holding that vase but it was just Yoongi and Yun.’ I say. I’m between smiling and crying right now.
  • ‘I don’t know how to feel right now jagi? I’m so heartbroken seeing you like this. I feel this pain in my chest. I wish I could swap places with you. If I could, I would do it right now. I’m also angry. I’m so angry because you didn’t come to me for help. I know you probably wanted to protect me and I get it but you should have let me protect you too.’ I say, my voice slightly raised.
  • ‘I’m sorry. I shouldn’t yell but I’m also so scared. I’m terrified that you won’t wake up. I’m scared that when you do, you won’t remember me. You’ll remember me, right?’ I ask as I squeeze her hand.
  • ‘You’ll wake up and you’ll hit me on my head and call me a pabo for yelling. You can hit me and yell at me for being a terrible boyfriend. You can do that as much as you want to, I’ll let you, but you’ve got to wake up okay?’ I ask, still sniffing.
  • ‘I’m going to spend the night here so don’t worry. You won’t be alone. I know you don’t mind being alone but I don’t think it’s right. I sent your mother and brother to rest. I managed to convince the others to go as well. They didn’t really want to but Minji agreed with me. She told them it’s better if we take it in turns so that you’re never alone. You always said she’s smart.’ I say with a bit of a chuckle.
  • ‘You and her are very alike you know. You both have short tempers, although hers is probably shorter and you both have a knack of getting into trouble and you both are always thinking on how you’re going to protect everyone else. Aish! I just wish you could both take care of yourself a little more.’ I say with a sigh.
  • I wake up the next morning, my body stiff as I feel someone shaking me. I look up and see Minji with Jimin. ‘Morning hyung. We’re here to change with you. Go home and get some proper rest.’ Jimin says and I nod.
  • ‘They say that people in a coma can still hear us. I was talking to her last night before I fell asleep.’ I say.
  • ‘Don’t worry Oppa. We’ll talk to her. I brought a book of poems to read to her.’ Minji says as she shows the book in her hands. I smile and nod at her.
  • ‘Hyung, manager Sejin is waiting for you outside in the SUV.’ Jimin informs me as I stand up and walk towards Yoona.
  • ‘I’ll come visit later jagi, okay?’ I tell her as I lean down and give her a light peck on the forehead. Once again, I feel a single tear roll down and land on her cheek. I grab my things, wave at the others and begin to walk out of the room and out of the hospital when I am met with a number of reports and journalists. I see their cameras flashing repeatedly as they shove microphones in my way.
  • ‘Can we get a comment on how she is doing?’ One reporter asks.
  • ‘Is it true you spent the night with her?’ Another one asks. I feel the anger bubbling inside of me. Why should it make a difference to you? I get fans wanting to know about our lives but these people here aren’t fans. They’re just reports trying to leech out a story.
  • ‘What is the relationship between you and Ms. Sung Yoona?’ Someone asks, their voice loud. Ah there is the question everyone is dying to know – they don’t really care about her – they care about her relationship with me.
  • ‘How injured is Ms. Sung and what are the chances of recovery?’ A female reporter asks.
  • ‘Will she be able to dance again?’ Someone asks and I freeze for a moment. I look at the crowd, searching for the owner of the voice but I also know I should keep my mouth shut.
  • ‘Is there a particular reason you chose to spend the night with Sung Yoona?’ Someone asks. This is getting more and more frustrating. I finally reach the SUV and go in. The driver begins to drive away quickly, away from the mob of journalists.
  • ‘I can’t believe they have no sense of privacy in such situations.’ Manager Sejin says with a frown. ‘Hoseok, how is she? Last I heard she’s in a coma.’ He says.
  • ‘Still the same as yesterday.’ I reply with a frown. ‘How did the media find out about her being hospitalized?’ I ask and manager Sejin frowns.
  • ‘I’m not sure but that’s not all.’ He says as he hands me the tablet. ‘They know that you’re the only one who spent the night there. I know this is the last thing on your mind right not so don’t worry about it. PR will handle the press and will issue a statement that BTS members will take it in turns with her.’ He says.
  • ‘Thanks.’ I say as I begin to read the article. I look at the heading which is all in capital letters, black and bold, ensuring that it will be seen.
  • BTS’ CHOREOGRAPHER IN CRITICIAL CONDITION AFTER SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT!
  • Sung Yoona, aged twenty-four (24) had just won the prize of Master of Dance 2019 just a few hours before the accident occurred. Sources say that she left the ceremony in a hurry and then some time later she got into a terrible accident.
  • Sources said that Ms. Sung was actually speeding and that she was the one at fault for the accident. Her car got hit from her side and caused a lot of damaged. It is believed that Ms. Sung suffered great injuries and is in a coma at the moment.
  • BTS members were seen at the hospital with Jeon Jungkook’s recently revealed sister Kyung Minji and another mystery girl who we believe is a friend of Ms. Kyung and Ms. Sung. BTS members and the girls appeared very distraught and upset at the situation.
  • This is understandable considering that Ms. Sung has been with BTS since the very beginning. She has won several awards for the choreographies she created for BTS.
  • We also believe that BTS member Jung Hoseok stayed the night with Ms. Sung. The reason why he was the only one to stay is still unknown. We wish Ms. Sung a quick recovery.
  • I sigh as I switch off the table and hand it back to the manager. ‘We’re trying to figure out how the information got leaked and we’re also working on making sure her brother and mother are not bothered.’ Our manager says and I nod.
  • ‘Do you know what happened? What caused the accident?’ I ask but he shakes his head.
  • ‘All the police said was that she was speeding and most likely she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt. A car hit her so pretty much what the article said.’ He says and I nod. ‘I still can’t believe it. Everyone at BigHit is just completely shocked but I can only imagine how it is for you. I know how close you guys are with her, especially you.’ He says.
  • ‘So you know.’ I say and he nods. After Minji and Jimin almost got exposed, Yoona and I had come clean with Bang just in case and as far as I know Yoongi has also told him about him and Yun. Bang was actually happy for us unlike most CEO’s who only care about their idols working for them. Bang said that as long as we kept our focus, he was good with it and that he was in no hurry to let the public know. Should they find out, he’d take care of it.
  • ‘Bang told me about the current relationships so I’d know how to handle PR.’ Manager Sejin says and I nod. ‘I know it’s difficult for you right now and as a friend I want to tell you that it’s going to be okay. She’ll get better and wake up. As your manager I have to remind you not to lose focus.’ He says and I sigh.
  • ‘I know that manager Sejin. She would not want us to anyways. She’d be *ed off if she knew we’d lose focus.’ I say and he nods.
  • ‘Still, with that being said, we’ll work around it okay. I know you don’t want to leave her alone so I’ve talked with the girls. They have lectures mostly in the morning so they can come in the evening and you guys can take it in turns to go for the mornings. I’ve talked with the hospital – they’ll move Yoona to the VIP room today so she’ll have more privacy and it will be more comfortable for those visiting her.’ He explains.
  • ‘Thank you so much manager Sejin.’ I say as I nod at him.
  • ‘I’m not doing this just for you boys but for her too. Yoona is a special person for everyone in BigHit.’ He says and I nod once again. ‘I just pray she’ll wake up soon.’ He adds.
  • Yun
  • It’s been two weeks already and Yoona has not shown any signs of waking up. The boys had no choice but to leave for a couple of days to go and do their comeback which was actually a success. They performed really well as they introduced the new album. Yet, during Jamais Vu, Hoseok got pretty emotional.
  • The fans, who know about Yoona’s condition have been sending constant support. As soon as they saw the choreography for Dionysus, they launched a project to make sure she wins the award for the best dance. The boys were quite touched about it and even told their fans how much they appreciated it.
  • I look at Yoona who is on the bed. She looks like she is asleep. Her bruising has faded and she no longer has the neck brace. ‘Ahh Unnie. There’s so much going on right now. The boys have made their comeback and it’s going really well. The video for Boy with Luv is doing so well and it broke new You Tube records. Everyone loved the dance too.’ I say with a smile as I hold her hand.
  • ‘The boys are now in Japan. They have two concerts there and they will come back sooner than you know. They make sure to see you every day don’t worry. They call who ever is with you to see you and they talk to you over the phone.’ I say.
  • ‘Oh by the way, fans are still going crazy over Dionysus. The dance is incredible Unnie. It’s so intense – probably the most intense one yet.’ I say as I try to think of the other dances.
  • ‘I still have to admit that Fake Love still remains one of my favourite and I know it’s one of Minji’s too. Mentioning Minji, I bet she told you she started her teaching practice. It’s a block of six weeks of full on teaching and she’s already finished the first one. She’s doing well although she’s quite tired lately. The lesson plans are taking a lot of time and even the resources making. I never thought it would take so much time to just do some flashcards but then again, she’s a perfectionist. She texted me earlier, she got her exam results and she did really well. I bet she can’t wait to come and tell you all about it.’ I say. I look at her more and sigh. ‘Just wake up Unnie. Please wake up.’ I whisper.
  • Taehyung
  • ‘Is this what you call dancing?’ Our new choreographer yells at Jin. I feel my hands balled into fists but Namjoon is ready to answer back before I can.
  • ‘Hey you don’t have to shout to correct someone’s mistakes.’ Namjoon says sternly but the choreography teacher just scoffs.
  • ‘You should know your place. I don’t care what you used to do with Yoona but I’m not her and I won’t be as lenient as her. The whole choreography is messed up. I don’t know what the hell she was thinking.’ He says with a smirk.
  • ‘With Yoona, we always did well and we are not going to change her choreography. You’re only here until she comes back.’ Hoseok replies coldly.
  • ‘If she does come back you mean.’ He says. ‘It’s been three weeks already and she has not woken up and the rumours are, she probably won’t even be able to walk, let alone dance.’ He says. I see Hoseok’s eyes go wide with anger.
  • ‘Watch your tongue.’ He says as he points his finger at him. The teacher, if you could call him that rolls his eyes and pushes Hoseok’s hand away.
  • ‘You should learn to respect your teachers. Like I said, I’m not Yoona. I’m not your age. I’m your senior so be careful how you talk to me.’ He says. ‘Everyone get back to your place.’ He says.
  • ‘*.’ I murmur as we all go back to our places. I don’t know if he hears me or not, not that I care.
  • ‘You’re right about that Tae.’ Yoongi says with an annoyed look on his face. ‘If Yoona was here, she’d chew off his head.’ He adds. I smile at the thought of Yoona putting him in his place.
  • ‘Yah!! Noona… it’s been three weeks already. When are you going to wake up huh?’ I whine. I’m the only one in the room right now so I can whine and grumble as much as I want to.
  • ‘What? Are you planning to be sleeping beauty now?’ I ask as I sigh. I wish it was as easy as a fairy tale. If it was, she would have woken up long ago.
  • I look at the bowl of lukewarm water that I prepared and the cotton buds. I take one of them, dip them in the water and start to clean her hands. ‘Minji showed me how to do this last time. I know the nurses clean you but I feel like I’m doing something.’ I say as I begin to clean between her fingers.
  • ‘Everyone misses you so much noona. Dance rehearsal isn’t the same without you there. Our manager got a new choreographer to work with us for now but he’s nothing like you. He keeps shouting at us, especially if we make a mistake. I half expect him and Hoseok-hyung to get into a fight sooner or later.’ I say as I move to her other hand.
  • ‘Hoseok-hyung said you love my song… do you want me to sing it to you?’ I ask. ‘She looks like a blue parrot… Would you come fly to me?... I want some good day, good day, good day… Good day, good day… Looks like a winter bear… You sleep so happily…I wish you good night, good night, good night… Good night, good night…Imagine your face… Say hello to me… Then all the bad days… They’re nothing to me… With you…Winter bear… Ooh, ooh, ooh… Sleep like a winter bear… Ooh, ooh, ooh… Sleep like a winter bear.’ I sing to her.
  • I realize I have tears rolling down my cheeks and I wipe them quickly away. ‘Come on noona… wake up. How long are you going to sleep huh? How many push ups will you do? You should do at least fifty.’ I say, chuckling while trying to keep myself from crying.
  • I hear the door opening and I turn to see Hoseok there. He’s holding another bouquet of flowers and a teddy bear in his arms. ‘Hey hyung.’ I say.
  • ‘Hey Tae.’ He says as he puts the flowers down. He goes to the vase and takes out the other flowers. He plucks one of them and places it on the night stand while he throws away the others. He takes the new ones and places them in the vase and places the teddy bear on the shelf which is overflowing with all the soft toys and plushies we have been bringing for her.
  • ‘Hoseok-hyung is here noona. He brought you flowers and a teddy bear. It’s really cute. It has a red bow and is wearing a tux while holding a rose.’ I say. ‘I have to go noona.’ I say as I kiss her hand. ‘I’ll see you tomorrow hyung.’ I say, knowing he will be sleeping here tonight again.
  • ‘I’ll see you.’ He says with a nod as he comes to sit down instead of me. ‘Thank you for singing to her.’ He adds and I give him a smile.
